The wine route and Cafayate

THE HEIGHT WINE ITINERARY

A 200 km route in which you can taste the qualities of “high altitude wines”, the vineyards are located between 1600 m in Cafayate and over 2400 m in Molinos. These wines are characterized by their intense color and great character. The Salta wine region also boasts impressive colonial architecture from the time of the Spanish conquistadors. You can also feel the presence and the cultural influence of Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay that give an authentic touch to the place. Despite the fact that the wine region in Salta is one of the smallest in the country, around 1% of wine production is produced, without a doubt what is most striking is the cultivation of the Torrontés white vineyard.

TASTE OF TORRONTÉS

Torrontés is the emblematic grape of Argentina, it is the only 100% Argentine wine. The producing region of this stock is the Argentine Northwest for its height and microclimate. Precisely the Cafayate Valley in Salta has gained a strong reputation in the world for this variety. In this area the vineyards reach a height of up to 3,000 meters above sea level and there is little rain.

A grape that leaves no one indifferent, cultivated in Salta is distinguished by its white, highly aromatic appearance, with a wild / fruity palate and sometimes with a bitter taste. Many wineries along the wine route offer tastings and the city’s restaurants pairings that will leave you very satisfied.

The wine pairing offer Torrontés – white wine – is very wide. Enjoy it with locro, empanadas, fish, seafood, Asian food, Mexican food … We at House of Jasmines Relais & Châteaux always propose it to accompany our cooking classes or during pic-nic in our organic garden.
